Music, High School Werewolves, and NaNoWriMo

Fun fact: Moonless Without You started as a playlist.

I've already mentioned this in posts long past, but after I published a story about a zombie living in an HOA after the zombie-pocalypse, I wanted to write another Halloween story where the true horror wasn't supernatural monsters but supernatural monsters forced to live mundane lives.

It took me maybe another 8 months listening to Death Cab for Cutie to really assemble an idea. A world, I drafted in the shower with my knockoff Rite in the Rain pad, where werewolves were the norm, while plain humans were the supernatural. Something something forbidden love. Simple story/setting, check. Complex characters, next.

A lot of inspiration for Collin and Simon came from four, specific songs: Black SunMeet Me on the Equinox, and Bixby Canyon Bridge by Death Cab for Cutie; and The Night We Met by Lord Huron.

Simon's character was wishy washy for the longest time, until I nailed down some of his vibes listening to the bass/guitar from Self-Destructor by Chevelle and the drums/bass from Fourty Six & 2 by TOOL. You could say Simon's quiet on the outside, loud drums and constant screaming on the inside.

Anyways, here's a list of the current playlists for the characters that I use, on and off, for writing and brainstorming.

NaNoWriMo / Updates

With the school workload I have (pre-nursing), my posting schedule is going to be roughly once every two weeks. There may be some exceptions during midterms and finals week--I'll try to leave a heads-up before hand. Thanks for hanging tight with me?

I am participating in NaNoWriMo, albeit on a small, restrained schedule of an hour or two a week. My goal is 500 to 1k words a week. If you've never done it before, check it out! They do great charity work, and even if you don't see yourself as someone who can complete their challenge, that doesn't mean you can't support their mission!
